Paws on Course P3-P5 Tuesday 15:15

Paws on Course P3-P5 Tuesday 15:15

Activity Description

In this new animal activity, a real dog will be used for the first time. The little dog is a mix between jack russel, collie and a dachshund and her name is Muna (9 months old).

This activity is accompanied by the licensed dog trainer Martina Hakim. The course will be both theoretical and practical. What is the right way to behave towards a dog, what does it eat, where does it come from?  Practically, the children will have the chance to teach Muna tricks in small groups and learn the right way to handle the animal. In addition, there will be handicrafts and baking to develop a nice and friendly relationship between the children and the dog. It has been proven that it is enriching for children to take care of an animal for their own personal development, as an animal is very sensitive and gives a lot back.

When playing, dogs and children learn together. They train their dexterity, intelligence, and social skills. But working with the dog also promotes creativity and offers numerous opportunities for handicrafts and crafts.

Fun games with the animal ensure great experiences and many cheerful moments even for younger children. Children can easily learn basic commands and proper training techniques. Agility exercises are also taught to the dog and weld the child-dog team even closer together.

At the end of this course, you can get your dog licence. Whether you have a dog yourself or would like to spend time with Muna.  As many parents of the European School already own a dog and the children should learn how to handle it, this activity is a very good opportunity to apply what they have learned directly at home.

The course will take place on Tuesdays from 15:15-16:15 for children from P2-P5. As we will start with the theory part, this will take place in a EuroKids container village classroom. The practical part with the little dog will be held outside in an enclosed area on the EuroKids container village premises.

Introducing the teacher

For me to decode behaviour and motives was always a big fascination. This was one of the reasons I gave up a long, international business career to study executive and personal coaching. My certification as a Professional Coach, in addition with Positive Psychology, was then supplemented by Systemic Coaching.

This knowledge immensely influenced my classic dog trainer education and my ongoing qualification has been focusing on the behaviour, emotions and psychology of dogs. This is where I see the key for change.

When asked what the most important thing for me is in  training/educating a dog-human team, I always answer: the bond. The bond is what allows dog-human-relation to grow together and grow stronger. Is this bond established, “Sit”, “Down” and “Here” come naturally.

A combination of the latest animal science knowledge paired with positive training techniques forms the basis for my own training style. For me there is no such thing as the one training method, because every dog is unique and every dog-human team requires individual care.

I am looking forward to make the children and Muna a great dog-human-team.

The maximum number of participants is 8 children.
